It is still all so vivid in her mind.
Sam had punched Nick in the throat - in the throat! - and then he left them there.
The kiss, she told him, hadn't meant anything to her.
(It didn't - really, it didn't.)
But it meant something to him.
She can't believe that they're over - and they're over because of Nick!
And now she's sitting here on the couch, about to pour herself a glass of rosé and listen to Taylor Swift.
It's the classiest, least pathetic way of suffering through a break-up that she can think of. She's a grown-up now. She can't stay cooped up in the apartment for weeks on end, watching Dirty Dancing in her pyjamas anymore.
It's weird though.
Maybe it's because she and Sam hadn't been together for very long, but ... she just doesn't feel like bawling her eyes out or holing herself up in her room with Joni Mitchell.
Honestly, she's tired. Tired and a little sad but not because of Sam.

"Oh!" he exclaims, snapping his fingers. "Winston told me the best joke, it's about bears. No, wait, it was marmosets, okay? So there's these two marmosets, and they walk into a bar, right? And the bartender is like, 'Hey you, marmosets! What are you doing in here, this is a bar! Get outta here!' Ha-ha, right?"
He smiles at her. "Right? Because they're, you know. They're marmosets. Marmosets don't..."
You're losing her, Miller. Think fast!

Date: 2014-03-08 11:53 pm (UTC)Why does Nick have to try so hard to cheer her up anyway? It's ... annoyingly nice of him, so while a part of her just doesn't want to see him (because all of this is his fault!), a part of her is kind of touched.
It's a weird place in her head right now.
"Nick, I just want to drink wine and listen to Taylor Swift right now," she says. "Okay? I don't want to hear any jokes about ... marmosets. Or any animals, really."
